What makes a prayer effective?

How would you describe an effective prayer? Would it be one that left you feeling good inside, or one that received the response you desired?

The Bible tells us that Jesus prayed in many different ways.

  • He prayed before performing great miracles.

  • He prayed while looking at a city and weeping.

  • He prayed all night before selecting his apostles.

  • He prayed alone where his close friends could not hear.

  • He prayed not to have to face the cross, and he prayed while being nailed to that very cross.

  • He prayed that his mission would be fulfilled, and he prayed that the will of His father be accomplished no matter the cost.

It's not so much about me. Prayer is more about God than it is about me. Jesus modeled prayer. We're still learning. What is an effective prayer? A prayer that comes to God on his terms, seeking ways in which his name might be glorified in our lives.
