Is the Bible Relevant?
Is the Bible relevant?
Well, let's think about it:
A man meets and marries a beautiful woman. So beautiful, in fact, that he's afraid someone will kill him in order to have her as his wife. So he lies. Insecurity issues, even back then, impacts relationships.
This couple hopes for children, but that doesn't happen for a long time. Sound familiar?
A plan emerges for a surrogate mother to bear a child for them, but the resulting young boy is never fully accepted. Parenting problems.
They finally have a child of their own, but now regret earlier decisions for children.
They decide they need to separate themselves from the first child in his natural mother, so they send them away, literally kicking them out.
The result a mother and child are all alone, struggling to survive.
Wow. Blended families, sibling rivalry, single parenting all occurring in the first book of the Bible with Abraham and Sarah. Maybe we have underestimated the Bible and God.
